Breville BJS700SIL or The Big Squeeze is the offspring of their first slow juicer. The company is slowly replacing Juice Fountain Crush with this newer and better machine. What’s interesting about this machine is its dual chute system. It’s a whole slow juicer and at the same time, it also has a smaller opening.
Whole slow juicers have a big caveat. It’s not really intended to take on whole produce. You’ll have to remove the pits and seeds first. In addition, it’s also advisable to cut soft fruits into at least four pieces before putting it down the 3-inch feeder. The smaller spout is intended for leafy greens and fibrous produce.
What’s the point of whole slow juicers then? That’s the million dollar question I’m leaving you.
This is by far the best and only slow juicer with the Breville mark, once the Juice Fountain Crush disappears from the market.
- Compact design
- The price is cheaper than other competing slow juicers
- Dual chute; there’s a big one which can take 3-inch soft fruits and vegetables, and there’s a smaller one for fibrous produce and leafy greens
- Juice yield is higher, producing dryer pulp compared to other Breville juicers
- 72 hour juice shelf life
- BPA free
- Its self-cleaning system allows you to fill up the mixing bowl and completely rinse the machine out in-between juices.
- It can process all types of produce such as soft fruits, hard produce, leafy greens, citrus fruits, soybeans and nuts.
- Ultra quiet motor
- This is the only Breville juice extractor which has a 10 year warranty.
- Not dishwasher safe
I can’t think of any other disadvantage of this machine. It’s almost perfect.
Breville BJS600XL Features & Product Details
Is it Easy to Use?
There are some unique steps that you need to follow when operating The Big Squeeze. It may overwhelm you at first but I bet it’s going to be a piece of cake the next time you use it. Be sure to read your manual when you assemble and use this juice extractor. Carefully following the steps will ensure a smooth juicing experience.
I mentioned above that this machine has two chutes. I’ll explain how to use it in a bit but I just wanted to add that in the context of usability, this feature adds some degree of difficulty to the user.
Is it Easy to Clean?
Breville BJS700SIL requires some effort to clean. It’s not dishwasher safe like other juicer brands. However, constantly exposing plastic to harsh chemicals in the dishwasher can damage its integrity over time. The best way to clean your juicer is by washing it manually.
The slow juicing process is the gold standard of juice quality. This masticating action along with the BJS700SIL’s BPA-free components guarantees a full-bodied flavor and a nutrient-rich juice every time you use it. You can even store your juice for 3 days if you’re planning to go on a juice fast.
What Kinds of Produce Can the Breville Big Squeeze Process?
This juice press can take all types of fruits and vegetables such as hard produce, soft fruits, leafy greens, citrus fruits, and nuts and beans (soaked overnight). There are just some special considerations to follow, which I’ll tell you in a bit.
Hard vegetables that are high in fiber such as carrots, beets, and spinach need to be cut to 2cm wide and 5cm long. There’s a separate smaller chute for this type of produce. The same thing goes for fibrous leafy greens. Following this instruction will maximize your juice yield and prevent damage to your juicer.
Though the chute is big enough for a whole apple, I don’t really suggest dumping it as is. It can cause a lot of stress to the plastic and it might break. The instruction manual says that soft ingredients such as apples, oranges, and tomatoes should be cut into 4 pieces before putting it in the feeding basket. On top of that, you’ll have to remove hard seeds or pits in fruits.
If you love making nut derived milk as a non-dairy substitute, this machine definitely delivers. It can help you make those milk alternatives provided that you’ll soak your nuts or beans overnight.
Last but not least, frozen fruits need to be completely thawed before juicing. Making smoothies out of frozen fruits is a big no-no for this juicer.
